Well I am not packed, yet but... my flights are booked, 6 whole days in Denmark,(April 26 to May 2nd)

I will be at the Dollshouse festival at Farum for 2 days and will meet some of my 'online' friends.

I am fortunate to be staying with our fabulous Danish friends, there will be time enough to go candle shopping and stock up on Pålægs-chokolade, Kransekage, too, I shall have lots of Smørrebrød to eat...

mmm, these are a few of my favourite things........

So although I am happy and singing, I must sit at my desk and make minis!

Lots to do but I don't seem to be getting back into the driving seat since Christmas...
There are a couple of big shows and a workshop on the horizon so, I'd better get myself into mini-making mode!

Workshop...
Up to Christmas, little interest ... then suddenly the bookings started to come in!
So if you haven't booked and you meant to... then you'd best do it quickly as there are only a couple of places left now.

Well the DIY work has begun...

Windows & shutters aged, stained & fitted.

Ceilings papered and aged/stained beams added.

Door aged/stained & hardware painted/fitted.

First coat of aging/yellowing on interior walls.

There is still a great deal to be done before I can start adding the 'pretty' bits!

It seems that the Ghost Witch has already moved in!

Today I was at a Dollshouse and Miniatures fair at Corby.

I met a Standholder that, until today, was unknown to me but what a talented and lovely lady.

I was totally amazed at her plants and don't know how anyone makes a decision, as to which one they should purchase!

As my birthday has passed and my Christmas list already completed and despatched, it rather looks as though it may be next year before I get to own some.

(Although I must confess to requesting that she make something a little out of the ordinary for me....all will be revealed at a later date!)

I really do suggest that you watch out for this lady when at fairs in the future and perhaps having looked at my photos (which cannot possibly do enough justice) you may wish to contact her.
You will not be disappointed.

It is such a long time since I had a real mini project of my own but a new one has begun!

The Tower...

This is the kit. Magical Mystery Tower from The Dollshouse Emporium.
There is much to be done but I have been collecting items for it and thought you might like to see them.
I thought it might be fun to guess who made my goodies ... can you guess?
No prizes, just for fun.
Many of these lovely items are much treasured gifts from Mini-mates.
Aren't I the lucky one?

There will be much more to show, but for now, I have to get ready for the fair at Corby tomorrow (not far to travel) and the fair at Droitwich next weekend, that's it for this year then so maybe I can play!

Inspiration & rub 'n' buff..........

Yesterday, Iread a blog post by JANICE, she had been using rub 'n' buff and coincidently so had I - in fact I looked like a 'gilded grannie' ... more on me than my miniatures!

Remember the photograph from my garden with the Heron and the old boot?

Well having re-created a miniature old boot, I thought a Heron would be nice.

Well then I thought, why not look for some pots in those boxes that have not been opened for years.

I knew that I bought some urns ..........? years ago.

I found them and gave them the same treatment....

3 coats of acrylic brown/green paint mix and then good old rub 'n' buff on top.

I think they look quite nice.

Then I gave the same treatment but with different colours to some pots that I am about to lable and plant up - Witchy ones!

Now to get the clay out, I feel creative!

The Flush Fund...

During the week-end of 9th/10th July, I joined together with other local people to help raise funds for our local Parish Church.

The church needs to have toilet facilities built, hence the 'flush' fund.

I was surprised how many people visited and also at the interest that was shown in the varied skills on display.

My favourite stand was the Vintage China hire, two very talented ladies, Karen & Charlotte.
All I need is a special occasion!!!

Where do we get our inspiration from?

At this time of the year, it seems that many of us 'Miniaturist folk' are enjoying our Gardens and, judging by many of the blogs that I follow, it is where a great deal of inspiration comes from, so many of us are making flowers,plants and garden settings.

Then, of course we see pieces that we love, beautifully made by another Miniaturist and we just have to create our own version.

One such Miniaturist is Georgie Steeds (mentioned in my recent post) you cannot fail to visit her stand at KDF and not come away feeling inspired.

However due to the travel problems experienced this Spring, I ran out of time and did not spend long at her stand but I did notice her lovely shabby chic potting table.

As I always make a couple to take to fairs, I thought I'd try one (with her blessing, of course)

Now, whilst thinking about how I'd fill it and which colours to use, I thought about monochrome and contrast.

This led me to make up two tables, one is a shabby chic, monochrome design and the other is a contrast, using two colours from opposite sides of the colour wheel - red and green.

I spent ages making these, I made the flowers and painted and aged the tables, crates, pots etc.

The red and green Begonia and the Echeveria plants are kits from Georgie but the other plants I have made myself, using various flower and leaf punches.

I am not sure which table I prefer, I am pretty pleased with both of them.

I hadn't realised quite how much time had passed since my last blog entry!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all, no time to make any miniatures due to having a new kitchen put in at home...this took a few weeks.
We had a new tiled floor and walls plus, the three doors that lead to and from the hall, Utility and Dining room were also replaced.
It was lovely to go out shopping for all the new accessories - I do love to shop!
I thought that I would share a few pictures with you all before I show you the miniatures that I am currently working on.

Now to miniatures...

I am currently working on an article/how to for one of the Dollshouse magazines...I won't tell you what it's about because I don't think it's right, you will see it when published.
I will give you one little clue....

The leaves and flowers, I made up with kits from the lovely Georgie, who I have known for many years. I made the vegetables and the muddy beds.

I thought you may like to see the items that I bought at KDF.

I didn't buy much but I am delighted with my purchases.

Our day was spoilt by London Underground - the trip was tortuous and we arrived late then of course we had to cut short our visit knowing that we would have problems on the homeward journey.

We had booked our overground train seats and despite allowing over an hour and a half to travel from Kensington to St. Pancras, we missed our train by a minute!!!!

The platform staff said we'd have to pay for new tickets @ £49.50 each!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gave an Oscar worthy performance at the ticket office (according to my friend) and we were granted 2 free tickets! Result!

Another Ugly Mug!

Just finished this chap - his name is Rusty Tubbs.

He is a laid back, lazy sort of chap and likes to sit in the sun all day!

Back to some food making now as I have a lot of stock to replace after the Pudsey fair. The Gruesome Twosome were purchased before the fair opened so I needed to make a couple more to sit on the stand.

I didn't receive my copies of the May Dollshouse magazines until this morning but delighted to see my work in both Dolls House and Miniature Scene and The Dolls House Magazine.
Did anyone spot my wedding photograph in The Dolls House Magazine? ROFL...I knew that it would be the only photograph that was in black and white!!!! We have been married for 45 years in May!

I love to see my 'mini-makes' used by some of the best and nicest Doll makers, here are a couple of examples:
Two pictures of Bellabelle dolls and one of a Giddy Kipper doll...Julie and Jain are on their way to Chicago today and I hope they have a super time.

The Thame Dollshouse fair is taking place on Saturday 19th February 2011.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST....

Well well, I was looking through some old records, lists and discs for some stuff that I made some time ago and I came across this magazine article - International Dolls House News - do any of you remember this magazine?

I was a Collector for many years before I started making and in 1999 I was asked by the Curator of Watford Museum if I would have an exhibition of my collection and mini-makes!!

It ran from May through to June and it was due to the visitors book that I put out, that I was instrumental in the start up of the Watford Miniaturist Club.

I spent weeks making lots of displays to fill the glass cabinets and tables, in the centre of the room, as my houses/Shops etc would be displayed in the wall cabinets around the perimeter and on the stage.

This was when I first started to 'play' with clay!

I made my first batch of fish and varnished them with pearl nail varnish - they never dried and I had to throw them in the bin! That was lesson learnt, number one!

I did manage to make my first Lobster, Crab & Seagull. The Seagull did not sit flat so I had to glue him to the rail outside the Fishermans hut, the next couple were better.

It was nearly a year later when I started to make miniatures, every spare minute and with my good friend Irene, we both took to the Fairs circuit, I can't believe that it is 10 years ago!!
Sadly quite a few of the fairs that we attended then, are no longer running.
I thought you'd like to see some of the photographs of my 'then' collection that were published.

I had a whole seafront of kiosks, a beach scene with rowing boat, sand castles, lobsters, crabs and Gulls with children in swimsuits. This was set in the 1960's. Great fun to do.

Also shown is my favourite dollshouse, Keepers Cottage and my Queen Victoria Pub - these are both set in Victorian times.

Alas I did not make any more fish for quite a while, I bought some from Carol Smith. I had already collected quite a few pieces from her and used to just phone her and tell her what I wanted.

My next posts will be about the items that I first made & sold due to attending the Polymer Clay Guild London meetings, where my confidence quickly grew, working with such lovely people. This week, I revisited some of those skills/methods learnt back then and made some new (old) items which I will post on here soon. I will also tell you about a Sue Heaser class that I was happy to attend and the books that I have just unearthed, to read again.

Memories...

With the recent family event - our Son (youngest child) reaching 40, out came all the old photos and with them, many memories. (Gosh I feel old!)

We celebrated with a family meal and got talking about what we ate in the 60's and 70's

(oh dear, I expect many of my lovely followers do not remember!)

Well the typical restaurant meal was:

Prawn Cocktail, Steak and Chips followed by a large portion of Black Forest Gateau, washed down with a glass of Liebraumilch!

So for my 40th celebration cake (in miniature) I thought I would re-create the BFG.

Now I have not eaten this for many years but I do remember that as you cut into it, the cream, cherries and liqueur would 'squidge'.

So how to make a mini 'squidgy' cake that will not alter shape too dramatically when cut?

It was difficult to texture the cake as the layers were quite thin but, hey ho, the end result is not too bad.

There is a book entitled The Prawn Cocktail Years and these 3 items are the signature dishes from the 50's, 60's and 70's when Britain was learning to 'eat out'.

I have been laid low with a bug and now an eye infection and have not been near the computer!! Well I don't want it to catch a 'virus' - lol.

I will be back soon with pictures of new miniatures, lots to do this year, I want to try some new things but no New Year resolutions or I will fail!

Lots of snow, fed up with it now, looking forward to Spring.

I have made some baked stuffed tomatoes in miniature and thought I'd post the pictures.

Roast Lamb...

Yesterday, I had Roast Lamb for dinner so I thought I'd make a mini version too!

The lamb is coated with coarsley chopped rosemary and mint and honey roasted.

(actually made from solid and liquid clay but it doesn't sound so exciting)

The carrots were made from a cane and made to replicate peeled carrots (so no longer perfectly round, lol)

I always love the 'stickness' of roast lamb and have tried to re-create that look.

On Monday evening, I was invited along to the Wollaston Methodist Guild meeting to give a talk on my Miniatures.
It seemed to go very well (nobody was talking!!) and for the first time, after doing this on many occasions, there were Gentlemen in the audience.
I took a few photographs and you can see that some of my creations are being passed around for closer inspection!

Today I taught Food texturing at a workshop in Ketton, hosted by Janice.
The 'school girls & boys' were:
Barbara, Sue, Pat, Ann, Jacki, Annette, Jean, Triston and of course, Janice.
We had a super day, it was fun but everyone worked very hard and produced some beautiful bread and meat in the morning and a couple of cakes ( one, a Chocolate Bundt) in the afternoon.

Everyone was given a comments card to write on and these were the results:

Oooh, I am truly blushing!!!
It is a lovely feeling when at the end of a workshop, everyone has produced miniatures that they are really happy with.
Now back to building stock for Miniatura!
